Assistant Genetic Farm Manager

At AcuFast, we believe the best way to predict the future is to create it – and that’s exactly what we’re doing. As part of our continued growth and investment in leadership development, we are introducing a new leadership position at our Tell City, Indiana barn: Assistant Genetic Farm Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to step into a foundational position that will work closely with the Genetic Farm Manager, to oversee daily operations, support the execution of our genetic program, and lead team in one of our key genetic barns.

 

This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions but is not limited to:

Leadership:

  • Work closely with the Farm Manager to provide leadership and guidance to all team members.
  • Provide coaching and training on job requirements, SOPs, biosecurity protocols, health and safety regulations, and fostering an inclusive work environment.

Genetic Program Execution:

  • Support the implementation of AcuFast’s genetic improvement program by ensuring accurate data collection related to breeding, performance traits, and animal health.
  • Assist in identifying and managing elite animals based on genetic merit.
  • Ensure team understanding of how daily tasks contribute to long-term genetic progress.

Policies and Procedures:

  • Ensure all team members follow established SOPs and adhere to animal welfare and biosecurity requirements.
  • Monitor and address any deviations from protocols and take corrective actions as necessary.

Data Analysis:

  • Assist in analyzing barn production results and genetic performance data to identify areas for improvement in productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Make informed decisions and adjustments to maximize both production and genetic outcomes.

Maintaining Equipment and Systems:

  • Ensure that ventilation, feed, and watering systems are functioning properly.
  • Foster the development of troubleshooting and diagnostic skills within your team.

Performing other general farm duties as required.

 

The successful candidate would ideally possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  • 3+ years of sow farm experience, preferably in a genetic nucleus or multiplier setting.
  • Experience leading and motivating teams.
  • Strong understanding of swine production and genetics principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and solving operational problems.
  • Alignment with AcuFast’s core values.
