Assistant Genetic Farm Manager

We are seeking a dedicated and ambitious individual to join us as a full-time Assistant Genetic Farm Manager. This role is designed for someone who can grow into full management responsibility for the stud, taking on not only daily operations but also helping to expand and strengthen this business over time. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on operational expertise with leadership skills and a vision for growth, ensuring the GeneLink SK Boar Stud in Spiritwood continues to thrive and deliver results.

 

This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions but is not limited to:

  • Leadership & Customer Focus:
  • Partner with the Farm Manager to provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to all team members.
  • Communicate directly with customers and ensure their orders are delivered on time and to expected standards.
  • Coach and train employees on job requirements, SOPs, biosecurity, and health and safety.
  • Genetic Program Execution:
  • Support boar training, semen collection, feeding, watering, and health checks.
  • Oversee coordination of boar flow (quarantine and stud entry/exit).
  • Perform or assist in lab procedures, including semen analysis and dose preparation, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Ensure the team understands how daily tasks contribute to long-term genetic progress.
  • Compliance & Certification:
  • Ensure genetic work instructions are executed properly and that the farm consistently meets quality standards, including QMS audits beginning in 2026.
  • Work closely with CFIA to ensure compliance with all requirements for maintaining stud certification.
  • Enforce adherence to SOPs, animal welfare, and biosecurity protocols; take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Data Analysis for Continuous Improvement:
  • Analyze boar production results and implement improvements in productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ensure proper documentation and support export sales processes.
  • Maintaining Equipment and Systems:
  • Monitor and maintain ventilation, feed, and watering systems.
  • Foster diagnostic and troubleshooting skills within the team.
  • Perform other general farm duties as required.

 

The successful candidate would ideally possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Swine farm or boar stud management experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Solid skills in conformation selection and strong knowledge of swine production and genetics principles.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and solving operational problems.
  • Alignment with AcuFast’s core values.

 

Work Schedule:

This role follows a Sunday to Thursday schedule, with occasional early starts (as early as 3:00 a.m.) to meet customer and animal care needs. While these hours are different from a typical workweek, they are a vital part of ensuring stud operations run smoothly and consistently.
