Genetic Selection Lead

AcuFast is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Genetic Selection Lead based in Southern Illinois. This role is responsible for supporting the selection of purebred nucleus animals, ensuring quality control, and maintaining selection standards across the U.S. and Canada. The Genetic Selection Lead will work closely with the genetics and operations teams to complete selections, drive biological performance, and contribute to research and innovation. This position reports to the Manager of Genetic Production and collaborates closely with production and sales teams to complete the selection of nucleus animals.

 

This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions, but is not limited to:

  • Support Selection Standards across the U.S. and Canada for nucleus animals, including final selections on boars and gilts in the U.S.
  • Lead and train selection of AcuFast Vantage females for multiplication farms and flows.
  • Collaborate with internal and external research and operations staff to execute research plans on time, within budget, and at the highest standards of quality.
  • Assist in daily site logistics, including coordination of pig and feed movements.
  • Execute Quality Management System (QMS) procedures to ensure proper research conduct and regulatory compliance.
  • Support biological pig performance by learning and executing daily standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in on-farm technology evaluations and continuous process improvements.
  • Ensure responsible and efficient use of company resources within established budgets.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned to support the success of the genetics and operations team.

 

The successful candidate would ideally possess the following experience and qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Biology, or related field of study (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3+ years of pig production or agricultural research experience (preferred, but not mandatory).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willing to work in a production facility and walk/stand for long periods.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willing to travel within Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Canada. Overnight travel required up to 20–40% of the time (average 1–2 nights per week; may vary based on candidate’s location). A company vehicle will be provided for required travel.
